Oh, Oatmeal!

Don't let your oatmeal live up to the boring hype. Jazz it up a little!

Oatmeal with Nectarines and Almonds
Make your own oatmeal canvas. Organic rolled oatmeal cooked with nutmeg, cinnamon and bay leaf, topped with nectarine, almonds and a drizzle of ginger syrup.

Oatmeal always gets a bad rap for being boring even though it is a blank canvas awaiting a myriad of combinations to be laid upon it. It is a natural food that is high in carbs, protein and fiber, and is therefore very filling, nutritious and great for the colon.

Oats are hulled oat grains which are milled to produce coarse oatmeal, steel cut oats, rolled oats and instant oats.

Instant Oats should generally be avoided as they usually contain added sugars and “natural flavorings”.

For a deliciously creamy, high protein meal, oats should be cooked in another protein like goat’s milk, oat milk or soy milk to make it more satisfying, but cooking oats in water is fine too.

Add some salt to your liquid before you add your oats. Give a good stir for extra creamy oats.

Salt helps bring out that nutty flavor!

Finally, take your cooked canvas and make it your own – a dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, turmeric, dried fruit, fresh seasonal fruit, nuts, ginger, bay leaf, butter or cream. Make it savory and top with eggs and herbs and cheese, avocado, chia seeds, flax seeds, pepper, bacon, sautéed mushrooms and kale, shrimp or chicken.

Don’t let your oatmeal be boring again!
